YIKES! WHAT'S THAT SMELL?
2nd Press Release January 2006 Dental DiseaseIMAGINE NOT BRUSHING YOUR TEETH FOR FIVE YEARS!For many pets, this is the case and it's time to take action now! Most pet owners don't realize that dental disease in their pets is very common. If your pet has bad breath, tartar build-up, bleeding gums or tooth loss, it's time to have your pet's teeth cleaned. Left untreated, bacteria from the dental disease can spread to internal organs and cause infections of the kidneys, lungs and heart. Things you can do to slow down tartar build up are: 1) feed T/d - it's a prescription diet created by Hill's and is sold by veterinarians and at our clinic 2) do NOT feed table scraps or any human food 3) give your pet a Kong Toy daily filled with "doggy" tooth paste to help brush their teeth (both items available at our clinic) 4) at a minimum have their teeth checked annually 5) discourage chewing on rocks, etc that can break their teeth and give them appropriate "chew toys" such as CET chews or Kong Chew Toys that can be filled with Greenies or Hill's chew bones (conveniently we sell all of these products at our office). Dr. Bleish's new puppy likes her Kong Toy filled with peanut butter! 6) have their teeth cleaned when recommended by your veterinarian - which will probably be more frequently for small dogs than large dogs, because their teeth are closer together and they don't floss every day 7) if you notice a change in their eating habits, broken teeth or blood any where near the face, call us at 816-741-8338
We will be including before and after pictures of pets who have had their teeth cleaned. If you have a story about your pet's dental health that you would like to share with us, please email it to AnimalCareTeam@aol.com or mail it to Animal Clinic of Platte County, 10123 NW 45 Highway, Parkville, MO 64152. We look forward to sharing your stories with others. Copyright 1-10-2005 and may not be reproduced without our written permission For More Information Contact: Phone:
